Memory Foam Beds Help People Sleep More Soundly

Memory foam was initially developed by NASA to alleviate the pressure of astronauts being forced back into their chairs during launches. The research yielded a new material they dubbed visco elastic memory foam, now commonly referred to as simply memory foam. The advantages of the foam were that it could adapt rapidly to body movements and sustain an equal weight distribution across the foam surface. In 1992, the very first consumer memory foam beds were manufactured by Tempur-Pedic.

It is not quite accurate to say that a memory foam mattress pad is soft. Stress on your pressure points is reduced by spreading the weight evenly on the sleeping area and molding itself to the contours of the body. The trouble with the majority inner spring beds is that they have a tendency to create uncomfortable pressure points, which a memory foam mattress can alleviate.

The foam is also comprised of an open cell structure making it possible for the bed to breathe. This feature leaves the surface of the bed comfortable by repelling moisture and dissipating body heat.

Unlike spring beds, memory foam doesn't have an issue with things like mold and bacteria build up. This is excellent news for allergy sufferers who sometimes find that they have issues with traditional mattresses over time.

An additional nice benefit of memory foam beds is that motion transfer is reduced so that your movement will not disturb your significant other. It is of course much easier to get good sleep if you aren't bothered by unwanted disturbances.

Box springs are not required for memory foam beds since they do not need the support that a spring mattress does. While you might want one to raise the height of the bed, a quality memory foam bed will provide you with all the support you need on any flat surface.

Be on the lookout for lesser quality imitations that do not come with a good warranty. Be wary of foam mattresses manufactured outside the United States because quality tends to vary. This recommendation applies even when just purchasing a memory foam mattress pad.
